As I get older, I have come to terms with my parents divorce. I still don't like it and I worry about both of them because they don't have each other like they used to.
Its hard to write about because I don't want to hurt their feelings but at the same time I am feeling more and more like sharing the stories from that time frame. I think the time I spent the two years during and after the divorce very much shaped who I am.
I was 17 when they decided to end their marriage and everything I knew was going to end. There was no more stability and I wasn't ready to be on my own, but there I was, 17. Not quite an adult yet too old for my parents to worry about.
I felt like I was cast aside like an unused automobile. You know the kind that sits in the driveway, untouched, has mediocre value but you forget exists sometimes? That was me. I saw my parents sometimes and went to school about half the time. I mostly went unnoticed.
