People Collector

I was recently told that I am a "people collector".  The title suits me.  It means that I enjoy other people and keep the awesome ones around to add to my "collection".  It sounds morbid in a way, so just to be clear, they are people I love and want in my life because I admire them and see that they add value to the world around us.  I can learn from them and I want to know what is going on inside their head.

I'm a very passionate person.  I love the people I love with all of my heart and energy.  It is rare that I ever want someone in my life to leave it.  It is hurtful when I lose a member of my collection, but it has to happen sometimes.  It is all part of life's process.

I remember having a best friend in third grade.  Her name was Sarah and I thought she was the coolest.  We shared a teacher and spent our recess time together.  I even visited her home where we watched The Labyrinth and she explained to me that her parents were divorced.  I was under the impression that we were the greatest of friends.

Sarah moved at the end of third grade.  Before leaving, she gave me her mailing address.  My letters and packages received no response and I always wondered what happened to her and was sad that she did not take the time to continue our friendship.  I guess in third grade not everyone had the depth that I did.

I found her online when I was in my early twenties, reminded her of our great childhood friendship and was surprised to hear that she had no recollection of me at all.

I sure don't like the feeling of being forgotten, but at the same time realize that life is a journey and there are experiences and people we will encounter everyday that may not remain at the forefront of our minds, but the impression is still there.  The reason things happen is not accidental.  I believe there is always a purpose.
