I imagined I would have a well manicured yard and garden, a man who made me feel safe and loved, a big old house and an eclectic collection of friends.
When I imagined who I would be when I got older, my goal was to be warm, giving and confident. I always wanted to be in good shape and the best at everything I did. It was important to me to feel "heard" as well. I hoped my opinion would matter and that I would have an audience. I wanted to be a role model to my peers and spend my life inspiring people to be free and do the things they love. I never wanted to stop learning and was determined to be forever inspired.
I wanted to be that person in your life who makes you feel brave enough to ask important questions and challenge the system when necessary. The person who is not afraid to dig deep within themselves to get to know who they really are. And the person you can trust to give you solid practical advice anytime you need it.
Never once did it occur to me to have a job that defined me. A job that told the world "where I stood" in life. That was not important to me and still isn't. It was much more of a priority for me to be an excellent human being.
Having these dreams is likely the reason I went to art school and do not have a high paying career. I wouldn't trade it though. It is my belief a person can live a fulfilling beautiful life abundant in love and deepness without a "career" and that's okay.
