To be annoyed or not to be annoyed...that is the question

I'm listening to an audio book called Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) getting by in America. It is a memoir of sorts. Basically, the author goes "undercover" to research what it is like to make minimum wage or a bit higher and live on her own only using the money she earns waiting tables, housekeeping and other various jobs she holds.

I'm curious to see what she learns, but at the same time am entertaining the idea of being annoyed by this whole "experiment". In some ways, the way her life changes and the struggles she faces, are very real in my own world. Even though I live in a 2 income household and have health insurance, we still have our fair share of struggles at times.

I am only 2 discs into the story, so I'm not sure if I should be annoyed or not. In some ways it seems like a slap in the face to people who make minimum wage at two or more jobs. Here she is, a wealthy, professional writer, taking on this lifestyle to "inform" the world of how many people barely get by. I am fascinated by the people she encountered and their stories, but not sure how I feel about the whole thing. I have a feeling that this experiment will "forever change her life", so I will continue to listen. Also, its pretty entertaining.

Meaningless, yet again,

Zoma
