Peachy Malibu Dreams
Back in the Eighties my mom drove a blue Chevy Malibu. She loved that car and owned it for a long time. I had a prized possession of my own back then. It was my Peaches and Cream Barbie doll. She had a fancy dress that was made of some weird shiny stuff and lots of fluff. She also had a diamond ring and a pair of peach high heels.
At some point during our travels, I lost one of the peach heels in the back seat in the Malibu. My sister and I tried like crazy to get it back from the black hole that was the crack of the vinyl seat. With no success, we gave up but only for the night.
The missing high heel was a routine topic for us. We knew it was in the Malibu and always stuck our hands into the crack of the seat hoping that we would recover it whenever we were in the back seat together.
Eventually the day came for the Malibu to go to the junk yard. My dad explained that this was our final ride in the car and jokingly told us to "say goodbye" to it. I was frustrated because I knew that after all these years, the Malibu had won. It had eaten my Peaches and Cream Barbie shoe and I was never getting it back. My sister and I ran our hands along the crevice the entire way to the junk yard.
We never found the missing high heel, but we never forgot it either. I still have the single heel and when I come across it I laugh and recall this story.
