I occurred to me a few years ago that people come into your life for different reasons. Whether it be for a moment or many years, I believe that the people in our lives are here to teach us something, or to bring us into situations from which we will learn.
I strongly believe that I was hired at my previous job to meet my now, mother-in-law and then be introduced to my husband. If someone would have told me that was the reason why I was hired, I wouldn't have believed them for anything. I was in a relationship at the time and naively thought it was the last one I would be in. I can now, look back and see that the whole thing fell apart for my own good and fits into the grand scheme of things.
When I am faced with people who get on my nerves or challenge me, I try to remember that they are in my life for a reason. When I recognize this, I can usually get along with them more easily. For example, there is a person in my life right now, who has been appearing hear and there for the past year. At first, I was completely annoyed and disgusted by this person. Over time, I realized that this person is here for a reason, but I am having a hard time figuring out why. Since the realization, the person and I have become acquainted and I am finding that they are not so bad. Still, the curiosity as to why they have been brought into my life burns at my brain. I wonder if I am supposed to be learning from them, or maybe I am supposed to be teaching them something.
As I ponder this, I have to recognize that people leave our lives too. This one is a little more difficult. Why do people come and go? Have we learned all we need from them? Is the chapter of their lives that includes us over? I find that I try to hold onto these people more than I should. When I was in the third grade, I had a best friend who moved away that summer. I got her mailing address, and wrote, but never got a response. I couldn't understand for a lot of years why I never heard from her. I wondered where she went, if she grew up as I did, and if she remembered me. Turns out, I was able to find her on myspace last year, and sure enough, she didn't remember me. That was a bummer.
I have lost plenty of friends in my life. Call it growing apart, moving on, whatever. The point is that I never forgot these people or what I learned from the relationships I had with them.
The end,
Zoma

Sometimes people come in and out of your life like busboys in a restaurant. At the time, you think they'll always be there but then life happens, circumstances change, and then they're gone and your time with them seems like a daydream.
You leave shreds of your soul on the people cross paths with. And when they're gone, you carry a small piece of them always.
