When I was younger I always thought it was strange to hear people talk about reading the obituaries. I thought it was a bit morbid and weird that a person would look in the obituaries if no one they knew had died. As I have gotten older, I realize the importance of reading the obituaries, as sometimes that is the only way you may be notified of a death. Makes sense.
It is a hobby of mine to read the job listings in the paper. Not that I am looking for a new job, or anything, I just like to know what is going on out there. So, as I began this hobby, I have also become one of those people who regularly read the obits. What I have learned through this is that there are entirely too many interesting people out there that we don't know. I just read an obituary for an elderly lady who was on roller skate team for older adults! That is so sweet. She was involved in all kinds of cool things. I felt sad that I didn't know her, and also felt sad that so many times we don't look at people closely enough. Everyone has a hobby or something they are passionate about... but we hardly ever get to find out what it is...even our family members and co-workers. Whats up with that?

I know I don't look too closely because I've learned that most of the time there's nothing worth seeing...but I'm cynical
