Conversations with people who do not make art

I just finished a conversation with a person I know. I have to say that I am disturbed, but not surprised. It all began when I stated that I just found out who my instructor would be next semester, and that her credentials were impressive (this is an art class). He replied with "yeah, but what has she done?" I, being the Internet junkie I am, had researched her work, and described several examples. I also added that I find it to be very annoying to be taught art by someone who is not an artist. Meaning, someone who makes art. He then "explained" to me that a person is only an artist if they can make money off their art. I am so glad he explained that to me... I mean, someone who makes art for the sake of making art, is clearly not an artist.

As I write this , I know people are reading it and still don't understand wtf is going on. Just shoot me, now.
