My life today

Today I'm sitting in my favorite living room seat.  My chair is facing the Black River where I can look out the window and see a little bit of wildlife.  No one can see me from outside unless they have an elaborate spy plan.  In fact, some solicitor was just hear knocking on the door and I did not budge.  For all he knows, this house was empty.  I am not feeling well and have no desire to politely listen to and decline his sales pitch.

I plan to put in a bird garden outside this window when the temperatures rise.  Right now, I just toss seeds and crumbs on the ground.  We have a surprising amount of bird traffic for not having fancy feeders and such. I guess the birds are like Ben and me; simple, practical and kind.

There is a cat that lives nearby who comes to visit my backyard.  It is black and white and appears to be relatively young.  Sometimes I catch him sunning himself on the top of my privacy fence or garden boxes.  We have named him Scout.  I will not be feeding him, as he seems to be both fed and healthy.  Today he is darting around with the squirrels in between soaking in the sun and looking for prey.  There have been few cats that I have liked and only one that I loved.

Also from my favorite seat I can see an enormous oak tree.  About half way up the tree is an oval opening.  It serves as the doorway to the home of  a raccoon family.  They haven't caused me any problems in the five or so years they have lived there.  The river provides enough food for them so they are not as interested in menacing my gardens or trash.  Once in a while they get into the trashcans, but I don't make a fuss.  See, they can get inside the can and tear open the trash bags, but they can't tip the cans over.

And that's the view from my chair today.
