Time to make the Gingerbread

Gingerbread does not taste good, and is a nightmare to work with... but every year, I build a gingerbread house to show off to all of my friends.

Gingerbread is made mostly of flour and molasses. I mixed 15 cups of flour into 3 cups of molasses! It was quite a workout, considering I do not have the luxury of a Kitchen Aid mixer... or any mixer to be truthful. After the dough was mixed, I placed it into the refrigerator to chill over night.

In the morning I came back to the balls of dough and rolled them out. This is where gingerbread becomes a pain in the ass. It crumbles and cracks when you try to roll it out, and good luck rolling a piece big enough to construct an entire side of a house. I spent three hours rolling, cutting and baking the dough.

By the time I had finished the baking part, I had no desire to begin decorating or assembling the house. I'll save that part for later.

In the past, I have made slate roofs with Necco wafers and stained glass windows out of melted Life Savers. I plan to do more frosting details this year... that's how us poor folk do it.
