The life and times of making art

Let me begin this blog with saying that I am an art-making machine. Going back to school is the best thing that has happened for my art life...ever! I am taking another drawing class this semester. So far, it is pretty good. The assignments are sort of a challenge and force me to consider other drawing techniques and tools. Last week I did a line drawing of a drum set. It is child-like and awesome.

In this class, we all take turns doing 30 second poses for the class to draw. I am not embarrassed to do this at all. I am learning that my lumps and bumps are interesting to draw. There are some really skinny people in my class who wear skinny jeans and long tight tank tops... pretty girls, but oh so boring subject matter. I can do a gesture drawing of them in literally 8 seconds. It seems wrong to only have 30 seconds do draw someone and have time left over.

Our Studio:
The husband and I live in a 110 year old home with 4 floors... basement (doesn't really count as a floor), First floor, Second Floor, and full usable attic. Before we got married, the attic was my husbands music studio. Now, he graciously shares it with me, so I have 2/3 of the attic to use for art space and he has the rest for his music. It works out really well. I don't feel bad about having more space than him because he converted our beautiful walk- in closet, into a "sound proof booth" for recording. I have proposed that he make the crawl space soundproof and use the closet for storage...so far, no developments on that.

We have been spending most of our free time in the studio. We call it "up, up". "Going up", means we're going to the second floor, and "Going Up, Up", means we are going to the third floor. Its hotter than blazes up there at times, but it doesn't stop us from creating. Its great to be doing our own things, in the same space.

The End
