The life and times of mind numbing boredness

When I am at home I am never bored. There are a million things to do. Pull weeds from the garden, sit on my front porch with a glass of iced tea, laundry, clean the kitchen, organize the bathroom closet, burn official documents, read, dance, draw, think, water the plants, ride my bike, walk around the block, daydream, dust, peer into the refrigerator, create a cleaning calendar... the list goes on.

I try to make the most of down time at the office. I do things I normally don't have time to do like data entry and filing. I listen to audio books and NPR, but still am stricken with boredom from time to time. Between phone calls, I daydream of sipping iced tea from a canning jar that once held green beans and watching the clouds go by. Then I snap out of it and find myself in a poorly lit lobby that smells weird sometimes. I imagine how lame I must look from the front. My frown in place and makeup worn off. I'm busy enough, and get my work done in an efficient manner, but I fear my brain is not working enough. Sure, I would like to put my brain to work in other important areas, but during the hours of 8-5, what choice do I have? I am too smart to transfer calls and pretend to laugh at jokes I have heard a million times over.

Once in a while, when I hear a lame joke and choose not to present my fake laugh, the joke teller thinks I don't get it. This makes me laugh inside to know that they think I am trying to figure out what is going on, when in reality, I am just wishing they would go away much faster than they probably will.

The latest and greatest news in my life is my plan to work 2 jobs this semester...instead of taking a class. I think it will do me right to make pizzas again for 10 hours a week. I'll keep you posted on this one.

Wishing I was outside,

Zoma
